Affordable Housing in Glaisdale Parish - - (Entry last updated 14th July 2010) The process has now reached the stage where all public comments and concerns are added to the other consultations necessary as a prerequisite to assembling all of the information needed to make a formal application for Planning Approval. It is expected that this will take place before April. Thereafter, early in the new financial year and subject to gaining planning consent, a funding bid will be presented and, if successful, building works will commence soon after. Update** Sanctuary Housing have submitted a revised layout plan showing modified boundary extents made at the request of the current landowner. The Parish Council held an extraordinary meeting to discuss these changes but were happy that the proposals did not present any significant differences and that the number and design of the plots would remain unchanged. To see the revised plans please click here. Sanctuary Housing intend to submit a full planning application to be heard at the August meeting of the NYMNPA Planning Committee.

Potential uses for old railway signal box at Glaisdale station. The Esk Valley Railway Development Company has contacted Glaisdale Parish Council to advise that Network Rail have offered this disused signal box to the community of Gaisdale Parish for a peppercorn rent providing the community takes on its refurbishment and its subsequent upkeep. GPC recently met with EVRDC to discuss this proposal and were advised that funding for the renovation of the box may be available via the 'Leader' scheme and this process has already been investigated and preliminary work done by EVRDC. In order to gauge whether there is support for such a facility in the community EVRDC have asked GPC to seek out opinion and identify potential uses for the refurbished facility, in order to determine the worth of pursuing the idea. If you would support this venture, and can think of ways in which the box may be used for the benefit of the community please contact GPC to put forward your views. (nb. the box is relatively small in 'village hall' terms and would not support groups of more than 10/12 people at one time. Suitable uses might be : exhibition/gallery display space ; small scale museum style exhibition ; small group meeting space etc.)
